Services

Dr Abdul is selective upper limb orthopaedic specialist. He performs arthroscopic shoulder surgery, shoulder replacement surgery, hand surgery, wrist and elbow surgery.

Shoulder

Arthroscopic shoulder surgery

Arthroscopic shoulder surgery is often referred to as “Key hole procedures”. Several small incisions are made around the shoulder so that procedures such as arthroscopy, debridement of the shoulder or rotator cuff repair can be performed. An arthroscopic procedure is a minimally invasive approach to shoulder surgery.

Shoulder

Shoulder replacement surgery

Shoulder replacement surgery can be offered to patients with severe osteoarthritis affecting the shoulder joint. In most cases both the humeral head (the ball) and the glenoid (the socket) are replaced, however depending on the level of damage sometimes it may be the case that only one or the other needs replacement.

Wrist

Wrist surgery

There are a number of conditions that can affect both the wrist, some of the more common being carpal tunnel syndrome and ganglions, both of these conditions can be treated via an arthroscopic (key hole) or open approach. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition when the carpal tunnel compresses on the median nerve (this travels between the wrist and elbow), causing numbness and tingling and potentially loss of grip strength.

Hand

Hand surgery

There are multiple conditions and injuries that can require hand surgery, ranging from De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, Dupytren’s contractures and trigger fingers, as well as acute injuries such as fractures, nailbed injuries lacerations and ligament injuries.

Elbow

Tennis elbow

Tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis is a common condition that affects the elbow. This condition is often due to overloading of the tendons in the elbow that are responsible for joining the forearm muscles to the bones. On occasion, if severe enough, this condition may require a lateral epicondylitis release, which can be performed as either an arthroscopic (key hole) or open procedure.
